Gretta’s Hamster Rescue
GHR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2021 by 14-year-old Copland LaBerge, named for a beloved hamster who passed away three days before Christmas. Between 2021 and 2026 we placed 268 hamsters in loving homes.
A new chapter
Copland is now studying at Purdue University, and GHR could no longer run from a family home in Colorado. Rather than close, we found the hamsters a bigger home. The Humane Society of Boulder Valley, serving Boulder County since 1902, has taken on the program and is committed to the vision that all hamsters deserve loving homes with proper care.

GHR Found its Forever-Home!
Gretta's Hamster Rescue has found its forever home. As of September 2026, our hamster program is run by the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. To adopt, surrender, or donate, you'll now go to HSBV. This site lives on as a hamster-care library and a record of everything we built together.
